Who am I?

I'm Greg Rundlett. freephile is a moniker I chose a long time ago combining the ideals of "freedom" and the Greek "philos" to represent my affection for things like free thought, freedom of expression, free knowledge, freedom from oppression. I think it is unfortunate that the free software revolution which started in the mid 1980's is pretty much dead and captive to 'open source'.

Why this website?

This site serves as a showcase for some of the features and capabilities of the MediaWiki platform that powers Wikipedia. Wikipedia is one of the greatest achievements in the modern world: sharing the entirety of human knowledge to all for free.

What do I do with my time?

When not at work, I take to the beaches, woods, trails, and mountains of New England to enjoy swimming, hiking, disc golf and scenic motorcycle rides. My Interests also include organic gardening and photography.

As a board member of the Coastal Trails Coalition I work to expand the accessible multi-use trail network in and around Salisbury, MA

-There is also a business-oriented goal that I have, but if it never comes to pass I will not be disappointed.  I hope to show the business world (both those providing services and those receiving them) that there is a vibrant and expert pool of resources around this area, so more technology-dependant companies establish operations here, or contract with local providers.  There are already many local companies using Free Software, and looking to do more.  There are already many local technologists who are experts in Free Software.  I hope that this website helps to create a community that brings these resources together.
