VSCode is different from its predecessor "Visual Studio". It is now the most popular IDE.
Almost 20 years ago I used Quanta as an IDE, but like so many free software projects, the project did not survive on the back of a sole maintainer.
Then I used Eclipse because that was supposedly supported by IBM and the entire software industry. And that didn't work out.
So I switched to NetBeans. And that didn't work out either.
Now that it is 2025, I'm using VSCode - although I'm itching to switch to PhpStorm by JetBrains because it is worth the money if you're a professional developer.
