I was searching for a file synchronization and sharing tool similar to DropBox and Ubuntu One. Friends were recommending AeroFS. I've been using DropBox, but now DropBox has Condoleezza Rice on their board [1]. Ubuntu One is no longer available. [2]
I decided not to use AeroFS because it's a proprietary service -- likely to go the way of the Dodo bird someday.
I chose to use git-annex and the git-annex assistant
